The Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami)

The first mosque that Ottoman sultans’ get built is the Grand Mosque. (The second one is the Green Mosque also in Bursa.) It is the largest mosque of Bursa. It is located in the city center, on Ataturk Street.

It was built by Yildirim Bayezid, the 4th Ottoman sultan, between 1396-1399 after Nigbolu triumph. The Grand Mosque which has the feature of being the first multiple dome Ottoman mosque has 20 domes. Its shadirvan (a pool with taps around it and water flowing from the fountain in the middle, domed or open) is located inside the mosque. The first minaret was built by Yildirim Bayezid, the second is by Sultan Celebi Mehmed.
